Elias grew up in Iowa, where he recieved a B.A. in English and French. He is now working toward an MFA
in creative writing in Virginia and has a poem forthcoming in California Quarterly. Elias has only dappled
in photography, mostly on a trip abroad, but is now focusing on cultivating his photographic eye.

I took this picture on Barbecue Run, in West Virginia. You can see it as part of a series at
postcardseries.blogspot.com. On the website there's a poem I wrote from the chair I was sitting in when I
took this picture. It tells the story of how I ended up in the middle of the Appalachians with my dad.
