Picking out the brand name cereal.
The jelly. Chocolate peanut butter
cups. A hundred dollars to fill the
buggy with meat. I’m just riding the
cart. The wheel wobbling. Coke-
a-Cola in a bottle. Tang the in drink.
We buy plenty of vegetables. Can
goods. As the cabinets are always
stocked for late night plundering.
And the drawer by the silverware is
full of candy bars. Mother’s purse is
full of chewing gum.

Arkansas . Rome . Red ink on paper bags,
Mutsu. Apple cider,
yellow jackets. Chow Chow for
collard greens. Apple butter for bread.
Sunshine through the kitchen window
on winter mornings.
