marigolds,
freeze dried
canaries.
Chapped faces, jutting chins,
green fatigues, - hut!
shocked
to attention.
Flickery flotilla in
raggedy formation
marches in place
in the morning cold.

Rebecca Frost is the winner of two mnartists.org What Light poetry competitions, a Writers Rising Up
online journal contest, a Jerome Foundation Spoken Word Grant through Intermedia Arts, and as a
member of the Women's Performance Project, the recipient of two McKnight Fellowships in
Choreography. Her poetry has been published in Currents, Close to the Ground, Grounds for Peace, and as
a prizewinning broadside. She also served on the editorial board of Water-Stone Review.
